I consider myself a very fortunate
man. I am
privileged to observe, familiarize myself with, evaluate
and manage the most majestic of cattle every day. The history
of the Texas Longhorn is legendary. J. Frank Dobie's The
Longhorns is the landmark authority on this
subject.
I consider I have made studied and intelligent choices
in selecting the genetics I bring to my program. The
selection of cows and heifers,
to match with herd sires I use I am confident
are proven and sound.
My herd sires "IP CEASAR", is a grandsonson
of the incomparable "Phenomenon", and the Senior Sire
"M Arrow Houdini" out of the longest horned Emperor
daughter "Bayou Empress by DH Red Ranger" are boldly
proving their heritage. Genetics I bring to my program
include Emperor, - Phenomenon, Circle K
Donovan, - Monarch 103, - Measels Super Ranger, - Jet
Jockey, - GF G-Man, Country Liberator, - JR Grand
Slam, - Overwhelmer, - Gunman, - JR Seman,
Blackwood's Diego, - Overlord CP, - Boomerang CP, -
Diego's Hot Shot, - Kodiak 249, VJ Tommie (aka)
Unlimited, - Coach, - DH Red Ranger, - GF
Southbrooke, 585 Overwhelming Toro, - Deigo's Hot
Shot, plus many more and my semen tank is stocked
with the who's who of the
Longhorn industry.
I
hope I have gained enough knowledge over the past years
to give the breed a substantial gain by breeding
for correct conformation, choice color and impressive
horn with superb disposition and character. The blending
of these varied genetics to achieve specific results is
an intense study yet rewarding when the desired results
are touched on or achieved, when the selected pairings produce
a type of animal I had hoped for, it really excites me.
I
have considered Texas Longhorns "The Cattle" all my
life yet only acquired my first Longhorns in '97, though
they were from registered stock these first animals were not
papered. In mid 2002 I realized a growing fascination with
Longhorns and chose to get more involved in the breed. Therefore
I made the decision to convert to a 100% registered herd
which it now is.
I have been a member of TLBAA since
2002 and though I consider myself still new to the best of the
breeds I have read extensively of the Texas Longhorn and enjoy
furthering my knowledge of this truly unique breed. I am
A.I. and pregnancy determination certified with
experience. There also have been many other breeders* who have been
so kind as to share their time and knowledge to guide me
in the proper direction in my Longhorn efforts.
My Academic training is in Fine Arts
with a BFA cum laude from "SMU's Meadows School of the
Arts" with emphasis in sculpture and a minor in Religious
Studies. After several years of using the ranchland and it's
features as my Arts, medium; of working, sculpting
and reclamation of the environment to accomodate the
cows and to create an attractive location and
setting, I am now back in the
studio featuring the Longhorns and their image in my
works. I am currently working on a table-top portrait bronze of
Bayou Empress the dam of M Arrow Houdini and M Arrow
Carnac.
In short, I
think I have never enjoyed an endeavor more. Truly Glenn
Phipps
